Frequently asked questions
Getting started
I was a TestFlight beta tester. What happens now?
The beta has ended — Pulse is live on the App Store for Mac and iPhone. Install the App Store version and it replaces the beta in place: your contacts, notes, iCloud sync, and sign-in all carry over automatically. The only change is that AI features now require a subscription.
Why does Pulse ask for access to my Contacts?
Pulse is built on top of your Contacts. It needs read access to import them into Pulse’s own local database, where it can layer on tags, notes, and AI signals. Your contacts live on your devices and, if iCloud sync is on, in your own private iCloud database that only you can read. If you turn on the Apple Contacts directory, the contacts you sync are also stored on our CardDAV server so they can reach your other devices — you can remove them at any time.
Does Pulse work without an internet connection?
Partly. Core CRM features — contacts, notes, tags, search, audit log — work entirely offline, because your data lives on the device. Anything that reaches outward needs a connection: news scanning, meeting briefs, and the AI features, which run in the cloud.
Subscription and credits
How does the Founders Rate work?
It's $9.99/month or $99.99/year, yours for as long as your subscription stays active. Available to a limited number of Founding Members — your permanent member number is assigned when you subscribe. After the cap, standard pricing applies. If you cancel and resubscribe later, you get the standard price.
What’s the difference between monthly usage and Extra Usage?
Your subscription includes a generous monthly allotment of AI usage — enough for normal use without ever hitting a limit. It resets each month on your subscription anniversary. If you do run out, you can buy a $9.99 Extra Usage pack from Settings or the prompt that appears — the balance never expires and rolls over forever. Extra Usage is only drawn on after your monthly allotment is gone.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open System Settings (macOS) or Settings (iOS), tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions. Find Pulse and tap Cancel. Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your contacts, notes, and CRM data stay on your device exactly as they are. The AI features that depend on your subscription will stop working, but everything else continues to function. You can resubscribe at any time and pick up where you left off.
Privacy and data
What does Pulse send to its cloud servers?
It depends on the feature. For matching news to people, Pulse sends a SHA-256 hash of the name and company rather than the name itself — the server can match without knowing who anyone is. For features that need real context, such as meeting briefs, Pulse sends the contact information needed for that request. It is used to produce the result and then discarded — we do not retain it, build a profile from it, or train models on it.
Is my data backed up?
If you enable iCloud sync, your data syncs to your private CloudKit container, which Apple backs up as part of your iCloud account. You can also export everything as JSON from Settings → Privacy → Export all data.
Where do I find the privacy policy?
On this site at /privacy, or via the link in the footer of every page.
